We’re thrilled to announce that the 2024 harvest has officially begun here at Mumana Vineyards! It took us two days of hard work, but we’ve completed the block of Petite Milo grapes, and we couldn’t be more excited about the quality of this year’s crop. The grapes were beautiful, and they’re already off to the crusher to begin their journey into wine. Today we got through picking half of the Seyval Blanc and we hope to finish it on Saturday.
A Team Effort
The harvest season is one of the most exciting—and busiest—times of the year for us. It’s a real team effort, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who’s been out there with us, picking grapes and helping ensure we bring in the best possible fruit. Whether you’ve been here for the whole season or just for a few days, your contribution makes a huge difference, and we can’t thank you enough!
What Makes This Year Unique
One thing that makes this year particularly interesting is that four grape varieties are all ready for harvest at the same time! Managing the picking of multiple varieties at once is a challenge, but it’s also a rewarding experience, as it means more of our vines are thriving. Seyval, for example, is producing big, tight clusters of fruit that are easier to pick compared to the Petite Milo, which had smaller and juicier grapes. It’s fascinating to see the differences in how these varieties develop and how they come to life on the vine.
How Can We Attract More People to Agriculture?
In recent years, we’ve noticed that more and more people in the viticulture and agriculture industries are discussing how to attract individuals to help with the critical work of farming. It’s a topic that affects us all, and we’re always open to hearing your ideas! How do you think we can inspire more people to get involved in this important work? We’d love to hear your thoughts on what can make farming and harvesting more appealing to a wider audience.
A Big Thank You
As always, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has joined us so far in this year’s harvest. Your hard work and dedication mean the world to us, and we’re lucky to have you on our team!
